Wanting-What-I-Can't-Have-itis

Inspired by a new blogger friend Allison's post "Dating Revolution" is a look at dating with the consultation of an old guy friend.

Turns out I recently had a very similar conversation with an old guy friend from high school in my attempt to learn where my dating skills go astray. And learned a lot.

Below is an excerpt from our IM conversation. For his privacy, he will just be M.

Since the convo is kinda long, here is the summary:
Steph: why do I attract guys with girlfriends?
M: guys are pricks and want everything they can possibly have.
and
M: You find the guys that are stand up guys because they are loyal to their gf's and you find that attractive

While that doesn't exactly answer my question... It kinda makes sense? And until I can actually get into a guy's brain and figure them out, I guess it will have to do for now.

Steph: well I am trying to figure out the best way to ask this
M: oh o.k.
Steph: why do I attract guys with girlfriends?
Steph: do I have a sign on my back that says "I'm a super cool girl and you'll like hanging out with me... but you'll stay with your GF"
M: ok answers...
Steph: give it to me straight
M: 1. because you are a cool girl and I assume these guys that you attract see that you aren't a high maintenance psycho hosebeast
2. you are attractive
3. you are smart and funny
4. for these guys you are more of a complete package than what they are currently dating and you show them another option
5. maybe because you are so cool and most guys think they have a shot with you - (this maybe true dont' know)
6. you underestimate how cool and relaxing you are for a guy who doesn't have to deal with all the psycho pamper bullshit
7. guys are pricks and want everything they can possibly have
Steph: I seriously get more comments like "You are such a cool girl" and yet they all still have GFs, who they complain about to me. I HATE being in the "friend" zone - with guys I like more than a friend (Sounds very HS)
M: girls are never in the friend zone with guys
M: they all do want to f*** you, eventually
Steph: so... I just happen to find the guys who are loyal to their GFs and don't want to leave them for the cool me?
M: what you lookin to be a homewrecker? hahahaha... no you find the guys that are stand up guys because they are loyal to their gf's and you find that attractive
Steph: no, I am not a homewrecker... that's the problem.
Steph: they're loyal, which I respect, but just sucks for me
M: guys respect you and they don't want to hurt something they respect
Steph: great... pretty sure I just have an illness "Wanting-What-I-Can't-Have-itis"
M: hahahaha. There is no cure for that.
