Remembering my love for libraries

Sitting in the Harold Washington branch of the Chicago Public Library doing some research and I have to admit, I have and will always love libraries.

I can't even really describe the feeling of a library other to say that it is places like this that make me want to learn more. Currently sitting on the 8th floor of the library, I know that there are 7 floors of knowledge below me on everything. Full of information I have never heard of and will never learn about. Much like college campuses, there is such a feel of learning in the air that makes me want to read more books. Unfortunately, while I was on a college campus, my biggest concern was not learning but making friends and drinking. It is times like this that make me want to go back to school for my Master's.

I have always loved school. And while my focus wasn't always on learning (normally it was socializing) I really do love school - especially when it's a topic I actually care about. I think that's one of the downfalls of college. While they're trying to make you a more rounded student, GenEd classes only reinforce our hatred for school. I don't really care about geology and while somewhere down the line I might use my vague knowledge of rocks - I want to learn about the field I'll eventually get a job in. I would have graduated with a much higher GPA had my classes all been within my major - I know this because my major GPA was pretty stellar.

Anyway, doing some research and will probably lose track of time - like I always do in a library.

OH. One downside to libraries. When you try to sign-up for a new library card and they tell you that you owe them $59.95 for a book you forgot to return 3 years ago. Woops! :)
